I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. When I was little I would stay up past my bedtime reading with a flashlight. Needless to say I love buying books. Since I live near Los Angeles I like to attend celebrity book signings. Before I started attending the signings I never thought about getting a membership to a bookstore. Now I am a very happy member! Today, I thought I’d share with you 3 reasons to get a Barnes & Noble membership.

1. You Can Try It Out For Free

You can get a two month membership trial for free if you sign up for it through the Barnes & Noble website. Even if you only shop here once a year the trial is worth doing for the discount. Those who shop here a little more often can test out what use the membership is to them. Considering the number book signings that I go to this saves me time & money.

2. Discounts

Once the free trial ends the cost of membership is $25 a year. The discounts you are entitled to as a member are 40% off best seller books and 10% off on almost everything else. Plus, you will get coupons emailed and mailed to you. So far the coupons I got in my mailbox have been the best. The coupons can be used in addition to your member discount which rocks. The only bummer with the member discount is that it can only be used in the stores. However, with the coupons Barnes & Noble has sent me & coupon codes I have found on RetailMeNot.com I’ve been doing okay.

3. Free Shipping

Free shipping is always welcome as far as I’m concerned. Any order you place on the Barnes & Noble website can be mailed to you in 1-3 days. Shipping costs can add up real quick. If you order from their website more than twice a year the free shipping might make the membership fee more appealing. My favorite part about the free shipping is there is no minimum amount that you have to spend.

A Barnes & Noble membership isn’t for everyone. For me getting to be towards the front of book signing lines because I’m a member is awesome! It really depends on how much money you will spend here on whether or not the membership is worth it for you. However, if you will be shopping here soon you might as well do the trial. What do you have to lose? Nothing! What can you save? Some money! Who doesn’t like the sound of that?

This membership sounds like it’s well worth it! The memberships we have here in Malaysia gets us 5-10% off at most, and nothing else!

Whenever I go to Barnes and Noble they always ask me if I want to sign up and I always just say no. It feels like $25 a year is a lot, but I guess that’s only $2 a month. I’m definitely going to consider it now!
