Big Eyes Q&A with Amy Adams

Big Eyes Screening

The back of the nicest ticket I have gotten at a free screening

On December 9, 2014 I was blessed with an exciting opportunity to go to a screening of the movie Big Eyes with a q&a afterwards with Amy Adams, Margaret Keane (the artist Amy portrays in the movie) and the writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.  I did record most of the q&a on my phone and have the videos posted on my youtube channel.  I got the tickets for free through a company called Gofobo and my friend and I drove up to the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles where the screening was being held.  When we got to the location I was not certain that we would get in because the line was so long and it was scheduled to begin at 7:30pm and at 7:15pm we were still very far away from the entrance.  However, the odds were in our favor and we made it into the beautiful theatre.  The only disappointing part was that the movie had already started by the time they let us in and the lights had lowered so we had to search for empty seats in the dark.

I am disappointed that the movie did not do better during awards season because I really enjoyed it and thought it was very well done.  Amy Adams did win a Golden Globe for her performance so it got a little bit of love but not the amount that it deserved.  Then again a lot of movies and their casts were overlooked during awards season.  Big Eyes tells the story of artist Margaret Keane whose husband Walter Keane publicly takes credit for her paintings and covers the take off of her paintings popularity.  Margaret had to live a lie for years because if she were to announce that the paintings were in fact hers she would face fraud charges and Walter had scared her into silence.  Walter was perfectly played by the wonderful Christoph Waltz who certainly has a knack for playing over the top characters.  Finally Margaret becomes concerned for her safety and the safety of her daughter so she leaves Walter and moves to Hawaii where she becomes a Jehovahs Witness and decides to sue Walter for the rights to her painting.  The court room scenes were entertaining and we were assured during the q&a that they actually had to leave things out of the scenes but that everything portrayed was in fact true.

The movie is really great I would rate it a 5/5 and encourage you to watch it as it is a story that deserves to be shared.  I am very happy to share with you the majority of the q&a that took place after the screening.  I apologize for the poor quality, I was in the middle of the balcony and so it is was hard to get a clear shot and it did not help that people got up constantly.  I would actually recommend that you listen to it while you do something else as there is no need to stare at it.  I hope that you enjoy hearing what they have to say and if you have not seen Big Eyes I hope that this has encouraged you to check it out!  For more information on how you can go to movie screenings like this for free please see this previous blog post: http://mybelleelle.com/movie-screenings/howtoseemoviesforfree/
